Lester Armstrong’s practice is concentrated in employment and labor law matters and includes counseling and representing employers in discrimination and wrongful discharge litigation before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts; development of personnel policies and procedures; human resources counseling; and evaluation of employer compliance with federal and state statutes such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and the National Labor Relations Act.

Mr. Armstrong has assisted clients in drafting employment agreements, severance agreements, and non-competition agreements, and in the development of employee handbooks and personnel policies, performance appraisal systems, and alternative dispute resolution programs. He regularly advises clients as they address issues involving employee discipline and discharge, compensation practices, layoffs and reductions-in-force, investigation of sexual harassment allegations and similar challenges which employers face everyday. Mr. Armstrong also represents employers in traditional labor matters, such as union representation campaigns, collective bargaining, contract administration and arbitrations.

Mr. Armstrong’s litigation experience includes a year serving as a judicial law clerk to Judge Walter H. Rice of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He is admitted to practice in the state courts of Ohio, as well as the Northern District of Ohio, the Southern District of Ohio, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits. Mr. Armstrong is a member of the Labor and Employment Law sections of the Ohio State and American Bar Associations.

Mr. Armstrong has served as an instructor at Cleveland State University’s Center on Labor-Management Relations and as a guest faculty member at the Northern Area Training Center at Menorah Park. In the area of civic involvement, Mr. Armstrong has held positions on the Board of Trustees of Koinonia Homes, Inc. and the West Side Community Mental Health Center.
