Celia M. Kilgard
CELIA M. KILGARD is an associate in the Litigation Department of Taft.
Celia's practice largely focuses on complex civil litigation and appellate advocacy in all levels of state and federal courts. She has a diverse practice, handling everything from commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract, fraud, and construction cases, to variety of other litigation areas including election law and compliance, white collar criminal defense, canon law, personal injury, administrative hearings, compliance and regulatory work.
She has represented a variety of different types of clients as both first and second chair in a range of courtroom settings including appellate oral arguments, injunction hearings, arbitrations, administrative hearings and trial. She has experience with every phase of litigation, from discovery to motions practice to trial and appeal.
Celia focuses on getting practical client driven results and evaluates the objectives of her clients in able to formulate the best approach to handling their litigation. She has successfully negotiated favorable settlement results for clients including achieving resolutions for clients prior to filing a formal law suit.
Her courtroom experience was developed first-hand. Prior to joining the firm, she was Staff Attorney to the Honorable Richard A. Frye in Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, working on the specialized Commercial Docket.
Celia is actively involved in the community in activities both within and outside the bar. She is actively involved in pro bono service and gives back to young lawyers and law students by serving as both a formal and informal mentor. She is involved in the Columbus Bar Association where she currently is chair of the Common Pleas Committee. She has served as the co-chair for the New Lawyers Committee for 2013-2015 and has served as a planning committee member for the Columbus Bar Association’s Barrister’s Leadership Program in 2013 and 2014. She is also involved in the Federal Bar Association – Columbus Chapter. Celia looks forward to volunteering each year as a Judge for the National Center for Adoption Law and Policy’s National Moot Court Competition.
She participates yearly in the bike ride against cancer, Pelotonia, and is a member of The Childhood League where she advocates, volunteers weekly, and fundraises for special needs children in our community. She is a member of the United Way's LINK program and is an active participant as alum of The Ohio State University Dance Team where she was formally one of the Co-Captains. Also, during undergrad she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She enjoys taking yoga, cooking, exploring and advocating for the city of Columbus as a young professional living and working downtown, and teaching new tricks to her rescue dog.
