Elizabeth E. Babbitt
ELIZABETH E. BABBITT is a trial attorney in the Chicago office of Taft. Elizabeth’s practice focuses primarily on commercial litigation and employment law. In a month-long federal bench and jury trial in 2014, Elizabeth successfully helped defend her client against allegations of employment discrimination. The jury and judge agreed and returned a complete victory for her client. Elizabeth also recently represented a property owner in an eminent domain valuation dispute in a jury trial in Illinois state court. She is a member of the Federal Trial Bar. Prior to joining Taft, Elizabeth was a federal law clerk for the Honorable John W. Darrah of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Elizabeth is an active member of the Chicago legal community. She is an Adjunct Professor of Accelerated Trial Advocacy for Intellectual Property at the John Marshall Law School, and the President of the University of Illinois College of Law Alumni Board. She also acts as a liaison between the Chicago Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section and the CBA Record bar association magazine. Elizabeth is a member of the Mother McAuley High School Alumnae Law Society and assists in coaching the school's mock trial team.
Elizabeth received her J. D., cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law. While in law school, she served as the admissions coordinator and editor of the University of Illinois Law Review, competed on the University of Illinois College Trial Team, and participated in the Federal Civil Rights Clinic, where she represented an indigent client in a Section 1983 action. Elizabeth holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in finance and business administration, cum laude, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Elizabeth has been honored as a Rising Star by Illinois Super Lawyers in 2017.
