Summary
As a partner in Taft’s Compliance, Investigations, and White Collar Defense practice group, Katie represents individuals and entities facing prosecution in state and federal courts and those involved with government and regulatory investigations. Katie has experience handling a wide range of cases, including health care fraud, complex narcotics cases, money laundering, and offenses involving cryptocurrency and the dark web.
She has represented clients in various courtroom settings, including jury trials in state and federal courts. Her experience with every phase of litigation, from discovery and motions practice to trials and appeals, enables her to effectively represent clients in all stages of a case. She routinely defends clients in responding to subpoenas and in criminal matters involving agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ohio Auditor’s Office, Ohio Ethics Commission, and Inspector General Offices.
Katie is well-versed in eDiscovery matters and frequently leads responses to grand jury subpoenas and civil investigative demands issued by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Office of the Ohio Attorney General, and county prosecutors around Ohio. Her understanding of preservation, collection, and managed review techniques, coupled with her mastery of the use of search terms and functions such as Active Learning, provides clients with defensible, cost-effective, and expeditious eDiscovery workflows. She routinely negotiates ESI protocols, drafts document review protocols, and leverages technology and artificial intelligence to identify and analyze key documents, maximize efficiency, lower costs, and create thoughtful narratives to support critical legal strategy.
Katie has been recognized as an Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Star (2017-2024) for Criminal Defense: White-Collar Law and as an Ohio Best Lawyers Ones to Watch (2021-2024) for Criminal Defense: General Practice and Criminal Defense: White-Collar. She is also an active member of Taft’s Gender Advancement Committee, which helps to develop, promote, and advance women attorneys within Taft, the legal profession, and the community.
Outside of practicing law, Katie enjoys spending time at the stable with her horse.
