There have been many changes in and affecting labor and employment law during 2016. During today’s seminar, the various presenters will be covering some of these changes in depth. However, due to time limitations, in this presentation we will present brief updates and alerts on a number of other changes.
Transcending Discrimination: Exploring the Legal Landscape for LGBT Employees

This session will examine federal and state protections, transgender employee issues, including “transition” and “bathroom” issues, and various best practices.
A Joint Effort: Preparing Ohio’s Employers for Sept. 6
Speaker: Michael Byers
The new medical marijuana law goes into effect on Sept. 6, 2016. What are its provisions? What medical conditions qualify? How will the new law impact Ohio employers and drug-free workplace policies? This presentation will explore these questions and many other upcoming challenges to Ohio employers.
New Wage/Hour Regulations and Practical Scenarios
Speakers: Elizabeth Stanton and Janica Pierce Tucker
This presentation will lay out the new wage/hour regulations effective Dec.1, 2016, which increase significantly the salary requirements for a “white collar” employee to be classified as exempt from overtime pay. As background to this discussion, the salary and duties tests required to be met in order to be considered an exempt employee will be discussed. Also, for employees who do not qualify for the exempt classification, i.e. non-exempt employees, the requirements relating to the following will be discussed: recordkeeping; what are considered hours worked; pay for all hours worked; and overtime pay. The presentation will end with application of these regulations to practical situations that occur in the workplace.
