An Employer’s Biggest Headache: Managing Medical Leaves
Speaker: Mick Terrell
Managing employees’ medical leaves of absence in compliance with the state and federal leave laws and employer policies is a complex process. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of all applicable leave laws, including FMLA, ADA and workers' compensation. We will also discuss best practices for dealing with the interaction of those laws as employers manage medical leaves in the workplace.
Marijuana and Employees: A Hazy Issue
Speaker: Tracy Betz
There are now 24 states that allow medical marijuana use, yet there is little guidance about how employers’ policies and practices should be modified to take these new laws into account. This presentation will explore questions related to employees’ use of marijuana and how this plays into workplace policies and procedures.
Wellness Programs and the Final ADA and GINA Regulations
Speaker: Chris Fowler
This session will include a brief outline of the regulatory framework governing wellness programs and a discussion of the final rules under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act recently adopted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Avoiding Pitfalls of Electronic Discovery
Speakers: Chou-il Lee and Melissa Gardner
This session will include a general overview of e-discovery issues that arise in small and large scale litigation, including the types of information sought, costs and production. It will also include a discussion of what companies need to be doing in anticipation of e-discovery issues and the types of pitfalls employers can face.
Emerging Rules for Equal Pay and Pay Transparency
Speaker: Tom Devoe
Equal pay and pay transparency are hot topics in politics and in the workplace these days. The EEOC and the OFCCP are focusing on these topics with new and proposed rules regarding the reporting and sharing of employee compensation data. These rules are primarily designed to expose pay discrimination in the workplace. This session will discuss these topics and how you can prepare to comply with these rules and avoid pay discrimination claims.
Are You Expecting? Pregnancy Discrimination in the Workplace
Speaker: Mick Terrell and Erin Escoffery
In 2014, the EEOC issued its Enforcement Guidance on pregnancy discrimination that has created new challenges for employers. Not so surprisingly, the number of pregnancy discrimination lawsuits has dramatically increased. In this presentation, you will learn about the current state of the law and how best to comply with the myriad of issues facing employers as they try to accommodate pregnant employees in the workplace.
Hot Topics and Recent Developments
Speaker: Blake Burgan
This session will cover a selection of hot topics and recent developments in employment law, including recent federal decisions involving claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Family and Medical Leave Act and other employment laws.
