Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP continues to grow its Intellectual Property practice with the addition of three IP attorneys. Birk K. Billingsley, Paul Gosnell and Richard E. Stanley, Jr. have joined the group as of counsel in the firm’s Indianapolis office. These additions at Taft follow a number of other recent high-profile additions. In the last two years, more than 20 intellectual property attorneys have joined Taft, bolstering the firm’s capabilities in this area.

Billingsley is a member of the firm’s IP and litigation groups. He focuses his practice on complex litigation and transactional matters. Billingsley earned his J.D., cum laude, from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2007. He graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in astronautical engineering in 2000 and an M.S. in multidisciplinary engineering in 2003. Prior to private practice, Billingsley was a U.S. Air Force Officer and was instrumental in the development of a myriad of highly classified flight test programs flying in numerous aircraft types. He currently serves as the chairman of the Monroe County Human Rights Commission.

Gosnell focuses his IP practice on patent preparation and prosecution in multiple technology art areas, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer and physics. His experience includes aircraft and industrial gas turbine engines and internal combustion engines; fuel cell systems; electric motor, power transmission and switchgear systems; and control systems of various types. Gosnell earned his J.D. from Indiana University McKinney School of Law and received his B.S. in mechanical engineering, summa cum laude, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Prior to private practice, Gosnell held various engineering positions for 16 years with GE Aviation/General Electric Aircraft Engines and Rolls-Royce Corporation/Allison Gas Turbine. He was awarded the Crime Fighter of the Year 2007 in Cumberland, Ind. Gosnell has served as a member of the board of directors and membership secretary of the Indianapolis chapter of the international cultural organization Alliance Française since 2009.

Stanley’s IP practice includes patent prosecution and litigation in the mechanical and electrical arts. He has experience in a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, turbine engines, industrial tools, construction equipment, semiconductors, carbon-carbon brake disks and numerous other technologies. Prior to private practice, Stanley was an engineer for seven years with a large agricultural equipment manufacturer. He earned his J.D. from Baylor University, his M.B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
