Rob Bilott's Work on PFOA Cases Discussed in New Book
The work of Rob Bilott, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, in several cases involving contamination of drinking water supplies with C-8, a chemical also known as PFOA, used by DuPont at a Manufacturing Plant in West Virginia, is discussed in detail in a new book entitled, Stain-Resistant, Nonstick, Waterproof, and Lethal… The Hidden Dangers of C8. The book, written by Callie Lyons… an Ohio-based newspaper reporter and radio news director who covered the DuPont C-8 cases and story from its inception, covers the history of the discovery and investigation of many hidden dangers of C-8… including the history of the litigation handled by Bilott that led to the first public disclosures of much of that information. Bilott was lead counsel for approximately 70,000 local residents in a class action brought against DuPont that was successfully settled in 2005.
Bilott and his co-counsel were named Trial Lawyers of the Year in 2005 by the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice for their work on the C-8 case.
The groundbreaking settlement, valued at up to over $300 million, included among other things, an unlimited fund for treatment to remove C-8 from water in area communities, blood testing for the 70,000 member class, and the creation of an independent expert panel selected to determine whether there is a probable link between C-8 and any human disease.
