« Back Taft Partners Justin Flamm and Toshio Nakao Selected for Leadership Cincinnati Program

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP is pleased to announce that Justin Flamm, a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group, and Toshio Nakao, a partner in the Japan Practice and Business and Finance Practice Group, have been selected to participate in the 2012-2013 Class of Leadership Cincinnati. Program participants will gain a broad view of civic leadership through direct contact with the institutions and the people that keep Cincinnati active.  During the program, the participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the community, including its history, strengths and challenges.

Flamm handles a wide range of labor and employment matters, including noncompetition and trade secrets litigation; lawsuits and administrative charges involving race, sex, age, disability, and religious discrimination; wage and hour matters under the Fair Labor Standards Act and various state laws, including collective action lawsuits; National Labor Relations Act claims, union elections, and labor arbitration proceedings; military leave; employee handbooks and workplace policies; electronic discovery and recordkeeping issues; and other issues relating to employment relationships.  He received his J.D. and graduated cum laude from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia.  While in law school, he was Editor in Chief of the Washington and Lee Law Review.  Flamm graduated cum laude from Miami University with a degree in political science and a minor in philosophy.  Currently a founding co-chair of ProKids Young Professionals and serving on the Board of Directors of ReSouce, he has also served on the Board of Directors of the Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center of Greater Cincinnati and is a past President of the Board of Trustees of The Friends of the William Howard Taft Birthplace.

Nakao is a native of Japan and received his B.A. from the International Christian University in Tokyo and J.D. from Duke University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and the State of Ohio. After graduating from college and prior to joining the firm, he worked for Kobe Steel, Ltd. in Japan for 11 years. Nakao also practiced law in Washington, D.C., primarily in the area of national and international corporate transactions and general corporate counseling. Currently his practice focuses on Japanese companies doing business in the United States and American companies either doing or planning to do business in Japan. The areas of law he covers are not limited to general corporate matters, but also include international mergers and acquisitions; licensing and joint venture agreements; the establishment of operations in the US for foreign entities; advice for shareholders and Board of Directors meetings; and arbitration and litigation as well as labor and employment, and immigration and environmental issues. Nakao is currently the legal counsel for the Japanese Language School of Greater Cincinnati and trustee of various non-profit organizations such as the Japan America Society of Greater Cincinnati and Tri-State International Education Fund. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for a number of years.
