Legal Assistant - Private Client (Minneapolis)

Taft is seeking a Legal Assistant to support lawyers on our Private Client team in Taft’s Minneapolis office.

We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support our Private Client team in the Minneapolis office. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proactively supports attorneys and paralegals in the trusts and estates practice group.
  • Prepares and reviews documents, letters and memoranda according to Firm standards using word processing software and document management systems.
  • Drafts and e-files various court pleadings and filings.
  • Manages incoming mail to include sorting, circulating, drafting responses, and saving as appropriate.
  • Assembles, mails, and saves estate-planning documents, including wills, powers of attorney, health care directives, and various types of trusts.
  • Effectively prioritizes work and monitors deadlines and calendars.
  • Processes requests for payment and reimbursements.
  • Enters attorney billable hours into the firm billing program.
  • Creates, maintains and retires files in accordance with Taft’s Information Governance Policy.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to adapt quickly to workplace stressors and to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Proficient command of the English language and standard grammar rules.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years’ experience with related legal work preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn and use specialized software and tools.
  • Proficiency with Kofax/Nuance, InTapp, LMS+, iManage, Bighand or those software programs’ counterparts strongly preferred.

The salary range for this position is $30.00/hr – $41.00/hr.  Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted information based on work experience, education, and/or skill level.
