Bond Lawyer Shanahan Joins Taft
Taft Stettinius & Hollister is pleased to announce that James D. “Jimmy” Shanahan has joined the firm’s Chicago office in the Business & Finance group. Shanahan has focused his practice on municipal finance and bond work in Indiana and Illinois since 2009. He serves as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, bank counsel, issuer’s counsel, disclosure counsel and special counsel for a range of transactions. Shanahan has worked on both short-term and long-term tax-exempt and taxable financings and on financings for schools, towns, counties, wastewater reclamation districts, water and sanitary districts, and park districts.
“Jimmy is a great addition to our municipal finance team and expands the firm’s ability to provide comprehensive services to our public sector clients in Illinois and Indiana,” said Cezar “Cid” Froelich, chairman of Taft’s Chicago office.
Shanahan’s clients include the Indiana Bond Bank, the Indiana Finance Authority, the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago and the Illinois Finance Authority. He has appeared before the Indiana Tax Court and the Distressed Unit Appeals Board, has counseled clients through IRS and SEC inquiries, and has advised clients on tax levy and construction referenda. Shanahan is also a frequent speaker on school and public finance topics.
