Matt Hogan Discusses Real Estate Challenges in Expanding Child Advocacy Nonprofit Campus with BusinessDen
Sherman & Howard public finance attorney and Denver Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) board member and former chair Matt Hogan spoke to BusinessDen about the possible real estate expansion of DCAC. Currently located on Federal Boulevard, DCAC is looking to expand its campus because of the volume of children needing accommodation. However, the location of the proposed development is in the historic district where any changes would need to be approved by Denver’s Landmark Preservation Commission. In the article, Hogan shares his insights on the history of DCAC’s campus, the potential real estate challenges with the expansion, and the importance of child advocacy centers.
Below is an excerpt from the article.
A Denver nonprofit that provides services for abused children is working through a real estate puzzle on Federal Boulevard near Mile High Stadium.
The group is proposing to construct a roughly two-story, 12,400-square-foot L-shaped building so it can offer its services to more people and bring more of its partners onto the campus.
It would need to purchase a fourth building, 3025 W. 21st Ave., to make that a reality. But the fact that all the buildings are located inside of a historic district, where changes to contributing buildings must be approved by Denver’s Landmark Preservation Commission, could complicate the plans.
Hogan has had “lengthy discussions with the folks at Landmark,” but that doesn’t guarantee the success of the proposal.
