Taft Continues to Expand Energy Group with Addition of Nyhart and Peabody

Taft is pleased to welcome Teresa (Terry) Morton Nyhart and Jeffrey Peabody as partners in the firm’s Indianapolis office. Nyhart and Peabody join Taft’s firmwide Energy group and bring significant additional experience representing energy and utility companies before state regulatory agencies. They are part of the ongoing growth of Taft’s Energy group. In October 2023, the firm announced Mark Alson and Kay Pashos also joined the Energy group in Indianapolis.

“We are thrilled to welcome Terry and Jeff to Taft. They are excellent, well-established lawyers who will complement and enhance our extensive capabilities to serve the energy and utility sectors in the Midwest and beyond,” said Elizabeth Brama, chair of Taft’s Energy practice group.

Nyhart concentrates her practice on the energy and utility industries and has 36 years of experience in state regulatory, litigation, transactional, legislative, and appellate matters. She works extensively with other aspects of public utility regulation, access to public records, competition, construction of new facilities, customer-specific contracts, alternative regulation and deregulation, energy efficiency, demand side management, energy policy, and renewable energy and advises on energy storage and utility of the future strategies.

Peabody advises on the legal and regulatory issues associated with electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater utilities. His clients include a wide range of public utilities, including investor-owned and municipal utilities, nonprofits, and privately held companies. He has significant experience representing utilities in rate cases, periodic rate adjustment (tracker) proceedings, environmental compliance matters, and other filings before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC).

“Taft’s platform and deep bench in the Energy group will enable us to access and offer more capabilities and support to our clients,” said Nyhart. “We look forward to collaborating with a diverse and talented team across Taft’s markets.”

Taft’s Energy team has deep experience providing full-service legal representation to a broad range of energy providers, public utilities, transmission-only utilities, independent power producers, developers, regional entities, and other energy-sector participants. With a focus on serving clients in the Midwest, Southwest, and Southeast United States, the group represents clients in the energy, water, wastewater, and telecommunication industries in regulatory permitting and approvals, contested case proceedings before federal and state administrative agencies, litigation and appeals, and energy transactions.
