Taft ranked No. 84 in the 2021 National Law Journal (NLJ) 500, an annual survey that lists the largest law firms in the United States, based on the average number of full-time equivalent attorneys for the previous year. Taft grew significantly in 2020, up 18 spots from the 2020 NLJ 500 and entering the top 100.

Initially debuting on the NLJ 500 in 2017, Taft continues to climb the ranks as it expands across markets. The firm was named for having a “Transformative Merger” in a National Law Journal article written on the 2021 ranking, referencing Taft’s combination with Briggs & Morgan that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2020. Taft’s notable growth is a reflection of its focus on recruitment and retention, strengthening its position as an employer of choice in the Midwest.
