Taft Prevails for Client in Illegal Dumping Trial
Taft recently won a victory for client Steve Rauch, a prominent Dayton-area businessman. Indicted in 2018, Mr. Rauch and three of his companies were charged with 12 counts of illegal dumping and operating an illegal solid waste landfill at three different locations in the Dayton area in 2016. On Oct. 15, Mr. Rauch was found not guilty on all counts. The companies were also acquitted on all but two minor charges.
The jury trial was held in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. The State of Ohio was represented by the environmental enforcement section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Mr. Rauch and his companies were represented by Taft Cincinnati litigators Ralph Kohnen, Chad Ziepfel and Courtney Lynch.
“Mr. Rauch is thankful that the jury saw through attempts to blame him for mistakes made by others, and he looks forward to getting back to his businesses,” said Mr. Kohnen.
Taft client Rauch runs numerous businesses in the Dayton area, including a demolition and excavation contracting business, a trucking company, a construction and demolition debris landfill and a cattle farm.
