Taft Supports U.S. District Court Justice & Democracy Center Grand Opening
On Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, Taft joined the Minnesota legal community for the grand opening of the United District Court Justice & Democracy Center in downtown St. Paul. The event was hosted by the United States District Court of Minnesota, the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Foundation and welcomed honored guest, Supreme Court Associate Justice Sotomayor.
The Justice & Democracy Centers of Minnesota believes that, “a student who has had the chance to engage with and learn about the functions of their government will be a more civically-minded citizen as they enter adulthood.” After years of planning and work, the St. Paul Center is now open for student groups, field trips, educator groups, and the public to visit, located inside the Warren E. Burger Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse.
The center features interactive content for visitors, highlighting the role of an independent judiciary in American democracy and the importance of the rule of law, such as framing our form of government, landmark cases, jobs in the judiciary, roles in a courtroom, the naturalization process that immigrants undergo to become American citizens and more.
“As part of the Centers’ Founder’s Circle, we are so pleased to see our vision for the Justice and Democracy Centers of Minnesota come to life. Taft greatly supports the revitalization of Minneapolis/St. Paul and part of that commitment is encouraging the growth and development of our community’s youth and their understanding of the law. These Centers are so important for this mission and we are proud of what has been accomplished thus far,” said Justin Weinberg, Partner-In-Charge of Taft Minneapolis.
