Sherman & Howard government and political law attorney Terrance Carroll has been appointed president of the Sam Cary Bar Association (SCBA). He will lead the organization in its mission to empower Black lawyers, advocate for social justice, and build a more inclusive and equitable legal profession.

He’s been a member of the organization for nearly two decades and has served as president twice, in 2013 and again in 2014. Carroll will be the first individual to hold the position of SCBA president for three terms.

“Being president of SCBA represents a significant milestone in my journey, both as a legal professional and as a leader in the Black community,” said Carroll. “I share the same passion for justice, equity, and advocacy as the founders of the organization and see this as an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Black lawyers and the Black community.”

In addition to his experience serving as the 54^th speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives, Carroll leads Sherman & Howard’s pro bono efforts and serves on multiple boards in the community. As leader of the firm’s government and political law group, he combines legal, political, and policy experience to provide strategic advice on the full range of legal issues related to their efforts to influence government, public policy, and elections.

Named after the first Black attorney in Colorado, the SCBA has supported and promoted African American individuals within the Colorado legal system since 1971. It was created as a self-help group to instill professionalism and facilitate the exchange of ideas among African American lawyers.

When the SCBA was first formed, there were less than 15 African American attorneys practicing law in Colorado, and now there are more than 200.
