Summary

Dion partners with clients to find practical solutions to their most urgent and complex employment-related legal issues. His practice centers primarily on:

Dion works closely with businesses and organizations on day-to-day matters such as hiring practices, harassment and discrimination, policies and handbooks, employment agreements, personnel discipline and performance, terminations and layoffs, and non-compete and non-solicitation restrictions. Whether the issue is big or small, Dion works tirelessly to provide his clients with strategic advice and comprehensive risk-management solutions.

Dion is also an experienced litigator, representing clients in federal and state court in a wide array of employment and commercial areas, such as non-compete agreements, contracts, discrimination and wrongful termination, and intellectual property. As a former federal judicial clerk, Dion steers clients through the most challenging aspects of litigation with a common sense approach to resolving even the most difficult conflicts.

Drawing on his unique background as a tenured college professor, Dion also works closely with colleges and universities on a full range of higher education-related issues, including student affairs, FERPA, tenure and promotion, and town-gown conflicts. Dion also has extensive experience in Title IX investigations, policy-drafting, and advising, and has even served for multiple semesters as an interim Title IX coordinator.

Dion earned his J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he was lead note and comment editor for the Minnesota Law Review. Following law school, Dion clerked for U.S. District Judge Joan N. Ericksen. Dion also holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Minnesota. He has written numerous articles and a widely-acclaimed book on Supreme Court confirmation hearings, and he is the recipient of multiple awards for classroom teaching excellence.
