Summary

Garrett is a director of public affairs in Taft’s Public Affairs Strategies Group. He has experience working in various policy fields, including housing and urban development, public policy, and local government operations.

Prior to joining Taft, he served as director of executive scheduling and operations at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a political appointee in the Biden-Harris Administration. In this role, he served as an advisor and led interagency and external planning for engagements for the Office of the Secretary. Garrett worked with housing stakeholders and elected officials around the world to develop and implement strategic engagements to further the agency’s priorities.

Prior to joining HUD, Garrett represented his hometown of Laurens County, South Carolina, as a member of the county council for six years. He also served as state political director for then-candidate Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign, worked for the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign, and held multiple leadership roles for economic development engines in the state of South Carolina. He also brings a wealth of knowledge in the transportation and alcoholic beverage industry.

Garrett is a graduate of South Carolina State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he received a Master’s of Science in Transportation Engineering.
