Summary

John focuses his practice on counseling emerging technology companies in the space and defense sectors, serving as both dependable legal counsel and a trusted and industry-savvy advisor to his clients. John’s general corporate and venture capital experience includes closing millions in fundraising rounds ranging from pre-seed debt investment to Series C rounds and beyond, drafting and negotiating millions in commercial contracts, forming and governing corporate structures, managing cap tables, and directly advising executives and boards of directors on various issues facing their businesses.

Within the emerging technology sector, John has a specific focus on serving space industry clients. His direct experience in the industry includes being outside general counsel to multiple launch-industry companies, drafting millions in launch contracts, executing seven-figure corporate restructurings of space industry companies, preparing FAA Part 450/101 license/authorization application materials, and counseling clients on the Commercial Space Launch Act as well as regulatory complexities promulgated by the FAA, FCC, and NOAA. Outside of his practice, John serves as a mentor for Techstars Space Accelerator and as an adjunct professor at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law – Introduction to Space Law. He is also a frequent speaker at Purdue University’s Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (AAE) Department.

During law school, where he graduated cum laude, John served as an intern in U.S. District Court and was awarded the Norman Lefstein Award of Excellence for providing 200+ pro bono hours to the legal community. He served on the Indiana Law Review both as an Executive Board Member and Student Note Candidate, with his note “Emerging Technologies and Lagging Laws: Article 12 and the UCC’s Attempt to Commercially Incorporate the Rapidly Changing World of Digital Assets” being published in Volume 56 No. 2 alongside distinguished authors such as Chief Judge Diane Sykes of the Seventh Circuit and former U.S. Senator and Indiana Governor Evan Bayh.
