Summary

Joe is a registered patent attorney at the US Patent and Trademark Office and a seasoned litigator with broad experience in bench and jury trials at district courts and the ITC, and oral arguments before appellate courts throughout the United States.

Clients turn to Joe when they need to protect new and innovative technologies, exploit competitive differentiators, assert their intellectual property rights against others, avoid infringement of others’ protectable rights, and defend against others’ infringement allegations. When clients are involved in IP disputes, Joe’s goal is to efficiently meet the client’s objectives while minimizing the impact on their business. He has handled lawsuits on both the plaintiffs’ and defendants’ sides in a number of district and appellate courts throughout the country, including the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the US Patent and Trademark Office’s internal review processes, and the US International Trade Commission.

Joe works with clients to procure meaningful intellectual property protection through patents, trademarks, copyrights, or trade secrets, assessing the existing landscape for patentability or infringement of others’ rights. If problems are found, he assists the client in avoiding others’ legal rights, which may include providing invalidity or non-infringement opinions, and working with the clients’ engineers or design teams to create design-arounds. Joe also works with a network of trusted foreign counsel to obtain and enforce international IP protection when needed.

Before obtaining his law degree, Joe was a design engineer and information technology specialist, giving him valuable insight into clients’ business needs, expectations, and innovation process.
