Matt is an associate attorney in Taft’s Employment and Labor Relations practice group. While Matt’s practice encompasses nearly all aspects of labor and employment law, he has significant workers’ compensation experience and has represented and advised clients through various stages of litigation.
As part of his workers’ compensation practice, Matt represents self-insured and state-fund employers defending and managing workers’ compensation claims before the Ohio Industrial Commission and in Ohio trial and appellate courts. Matt regularly argues claims during administrative hearings and has successfully defended cases before a jury at trial. Matt also represents employers defending employment-related claims of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and failure to accommodate, and counsels employers when charges of discrimination are filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. Matt also advises employers on a variety of labor and employment compliance issues, including review of personnel policies and drafting employment-related contracts.
Matt earned his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in political science from The Ohio State University. While in law school, Matt was an Articles Editor for The Ohio State Law Journal and was a judicial intern for the Hon. Thomas M. Rose, United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
