Mike Kosma thrives on building strong client relationships and is passionate about driving their success. As a mechanical engineer turned intellectual property attorney and strategist, he has extensive experience assisting both startups and established businesses with patent and trademark litigation and prosecution, as well as handling complex contested matters in federal courts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
He has led or served on numerous commercial and intellectual property lawsuits, including multiple trial teams. Mike has experience arguing before the district courts, Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, Patent Trial, and Appeal Board (PTAB), and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Clients benefit from Mike’s energy and dedication as he consistently finds the best solutions to their legal challenges.
His successes include asserting patents and trademarks against large international companies in district courts, representing clients in nearly 20 Inter Partes Review (IPR) and Covered Business Method Review (CBM) proceedings before the PTAB, securing Preliminary Injunctions, winning a contract case on summary judgment, enforcing a brand’s trademark rights in a full trial proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and later in district court, and handling general commercial matters. Recently, Mike secured a Preliminary Injunction for his client in a breach of contract dispute.
With a deep understanding of his clients’ business needs, he develops strategies to meet their long- and short-term goals, such as securing valuable patents and trademarks or implementing licensing programs. Mike’s unique engineering background gives him a distinctive perspective on technical patent issues, setting him apart from other attorneys. His industry experience spans aerospace, artificial intelligence, automotive, chemical, clothing and consumer brands, computer software, electric power, financial products, medical devices, mining, oil and gas, robotics, and wind and solar power.
