Summary
Mitchell is an associate in Taft’s Chicago office where he focuses his practice on all aspects of tax law. He has experience performing tax due diligence on transactions for strategic and private equity clients and providing advice on structuring transactions in a tax-efficient manner.
Prior to joining Taft, Mitchell was a manager at a multi-national professional services firm in Chicago. In addition to his tax due diligence and structuring work, he assisted troubled companies with tax planning, including drafting bankruptcy tax consequences memorandums, calculating cancellation of indebtedness income, and determining Section 382 limitations on a client’s tax attributes. He also interned at the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS in Washington, D.C., and worked as a legal clerk for the NCAA.
Mitchell earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, as well as his master’s degree in accounting and bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Indiana University.
