Summary

Regarded as a dean of labor and employment law, Ray possesses an encyclopedic knowledge and nuanced understanding of L&E laws and regulations.

Representing management for more than 40 years, Ray combines a robust advisory practice in traditional labor law with an impressive litigation practice defending businesses in employment-related claims in federal and state court jury trials throughout the nation. He excels at every stage of litigation, from discovery through trial and any appeals. He builds strong cases, delivers convincing arguments, and works tirelessly to achieve winning results.

Ray is recognized in Chambers USA for Labor & Employment Law and was twice named “Lawyer of the Year” for Labor Law Management (Denver, CO) by Best Lawyers in America. He arbitrates 50 or more cases across the country annually, participates in numerous National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) proceedings, and represents companies in three to four employment-related trials a year. He has been lead defense counsel in numerous class and collective actions and cases brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Over the years, the vast majority of his jury trials have resulted in pro-employer verdicts.

Beyond the courtroom, Ray advises nationally known employers on labor- and employee-relations matters ranging from collective bargaining, discipline, and management policies to employee layoffs and discharges. In addition, Ray frequently presents on labor- and employment-related topics and provides training through the Institute for Applied Management and Law and the Society for Human Resource Management.
