Rick believes in the right to a fair trial, and he ensures the justice system upholds his clients’ rights and the system works properly for his clients by providing each one with the best defense possible.

With nearly 25 years of experience representing individuals and corporations who have been charged with criminal offenses ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies in both state and federal court, Rick approaches each case without judgment and helps people through some of the toughest times they may face. Clients appreciate his ability to forge relationships with them, learn the nuances of their cases, skillfully argue their case in front of a jury or judge, and act with integrity throughout the stages of their cases.

Rick is dedicated to his clients and achieving the best outcome for them, either through negotiations or trial. He has tried more than 75 cases ranging from misdemeanors, including traffic matters, to the most serious of felonies to civil cases involving personal injury, defamation, wrongful death, professional malpractice, fraud, and others.

Recognized by his peers and others, Rick is AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbell; a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America; a fellow of the prestigious American Board of Criminal Lawyers, which is an organization of the most respected and great criminal defense lawyers in America; and recognized by Best Lawyers in America. He also authors the yearly update to the Colorado Criminal Practice and Procedure book for Westlaw.

  • In 2005, Rick, along with Richard Tegtmeier, won what is believed to be the largest wrongful death verdict ever in Colorado of $32.4 million.
