Summary

Scott advises on patent preparation and prosecution, clearance and invalidity studies, and inter partes review. His practice also includes matters related to trademark, copyright, and internet law, as well as contractual matters involving intellectual property. Scott’s background in multiple areas of IP helps him provide multifaceted solutions to businesses.

With over a decade of experience, Scott has prosecuted patent applications in the fields of software, semiconductors, optics, and electrical and mechanical systems, including electrical and mechanical subsystems in automobiles. Scott’s deep experience in preparing and prosecuting patents enables him to position inventor ideas to avoid the legal obstacles common to such inventions.

Additionally, Scott assists clients in lowering their risks when entering a new product space by identifying and analyzing existing patents in that space and helping clients redesign their products to avoid patent infringement. He also prepares defenses against claims of patent infringement.

Scott earned his J.D. from the Northern Illinois University College of Law and his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Prior to becoming an attorney, Scott worked as a software engineer. He implemented custom software for medical device companies and also developed cellphone games.
