Stephen J. Segall

Stephen is an attorney in Taft’s Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property practices in the Denver office. His practice focuses on a full range of litigation matters, including trademark and patent infringement cases, trade secret and fiduciary disputes, unfair competition, medical malpractice, and complex commercial litigation. Stephen has represented clients of all sizes in federal and state courts throughout the country, and he handles all phases of the litigation process from pre-trial motions, discovery, and depositions through trial and post-trial motions, briefings, and appeals. Stephen has experience representing and opposing prominent individuals and entities in “bet-the business” litigation across various industries, including technology and product innovation, financial services, marketing, after-market automotive parts, space exploration, agriculture, construction and development, oil and gas, heath and wellness, financial management, estate and succession planning, and condominium management.

Before joining Taft, Stephen worked as a litigation associate and of-counsel attorney for nine years at nationally recognized law firms. He has secured favorable verdicts as a member of numerous trial teams, including a $106 million judgment in a highly complex litigation against a national bank for breach of trust.

Stephen earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law and his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. While in law school, Stephen served as a judicial clerk for the Hon. Milton Hirsch, Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, and as a legal intern in the felony division of the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office. As a Hope Fellow at Legal Services of Greater Miami, Stephen assisted veterans seeking higher disability ratings.
